Photos from the May 2008 TJCCAA Baseball and Softball Tournament are now available for purchase. More than a hundred baseball and softball players — not to mention all of their fans, their family and friends — convened on Columbia State Community College in Columbia, Tennessee, for the 40th anniversary event.

Whether the field was rain-soaked, or the heat of a Tennessee summer sun was beating down, or the chill of night felt like frost-bite, the players gave it their all. From home-plate collisions to game-winning home runs, there was no shortage of picturesque scenes, many of which we captured on film. So check out the albums, and hopefully you’ll find a few images.

On A Side Note…

A few folks have asked about the photographer that covered the tournament. As many probably know, during Game 17 of the Baseball Tournament — the last game on the last day — he was hit in the head by a foul ball. We still don’t know if it was a glancing foul backward off the bat, a shot that bounced or deflected off another surface first, or if it was a line drive straight to the noggin. Not even sure if it was a Volunteer State or a Walters State batter that hit the foul. He went to the hospital for all kinds of fun scans, and everything came back normal. He sustained a mild concussion, and had random headaches for about a month after the incident.

He’s fine now.

Sports are dangerous — even for fans, journalists and umpires. “Don’t take your eye off the ball” is sage advice, even if you’re just taking photos!
